Scaling Innovation: A Global Healthcare Cloud Transformation

Oracle Cloud ERP, PLM, SCM, CX & Analytics | Medical Device Industry

A global healthcare organization dedicated to improving patient outcomes through life-saving medical technologies. Operating across North America, Europe, and Asia, the company manages a vast product portfolio that must comply with some of the world’s most stringent regulatory standards.

Customer Overview

The organization relied on complex, 20-year-old legacy systems that hindered scalability, restricted data visibility, and caused operational inefficiencies. The legacy environment consisted of:

  • An aging Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) platform with extensive customizations, no longer able to support modern regulatory workflows
  • A legacy Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system disconnected from the supply chain and manufacturing processes
  • Disparate systems across global regions with no unified data layer, creating silos between engineering, operations, and commercial teams
  • Heavy dependence on in-house IT staff to maintain aging platforms, posing a significant organizational risk

These outdated platforms struggled to support modern regulatory workflows and disconnected engineering from the downstream supply chain and manufacturing processes.

The primary objective was to modernize the enterprise infrastructure by transitioning thousands of employees across diverse regions to a fully integrated, scalable, and regulatory-compliant cloud architecture. The organization needed to bridge technical skill gaps, break down operational silos, and ensure high user adoption rates without disrupting critical daily business functions.

Challenges & Objectives

Oracle Cloud Solution Implemented

Since the program kickoff in May 2023, this project has represented one of the largest and most complex initiatives ever undertaken by our organization, highlighting our capacity to deliver at scale.

The implementation was structured across four major tracks, each with a dedicated go-live. We executed a coordinated, dual-track enterprise transformation, deploying Oracle Cloud solutions for both PLM and ERP simultaneously. This ensured seamless integration between engineering and the broader supply chain.

The full platform footprint included:

ERP SCM CX PLM & Analytics
General Ledger Order Mgmt Depot Repair Oracle PLM Cloud
Accounts Payable / AR Supply Chain Planning Subscription Contracts Fusion ERP Analytics
Cash Mgmt Inventory & Manufacturing Maintenance Fusion SCM Analytics
Fixed Assets Cost & Quality Mgmt Fusion CX Analytics
Procurement & Purchasing Global Trade Mgmt 7 Years Historical Data
Project Portfolio Mgmt Global Order Promising

Technically, we developed a custom data migration architecture to securely transfer massive volumes of critical compliance data. We also built automated integrations connecting the new cloud environment directly to manufacturing execution systems and global regulatory databases.

Global Design & Change Management
A structured Global Design program was conducted prior to implementation — aligning the organization’s worldwide operations on a unified future-state architecture and establishing process standards, stakeholder alignment, and a change-ready culture across all regions before development began. In addition, to drive high user adoption and secure leadership alignment, we implemented a structured change management and training program. This included conducting hundreds of cross-functional alignment and readiness sessions and delivering role-based training across 18 specialized workstreams.

Our Approach

The transformation delivered significant business outcomes across multiple dimensions:

  • Business Requirements: Addressed and fulfilled 1,461 business requirements across 19 workstreams, ensuring the solution aligned with complex operational and regulatory needs.
  • CEMLI Delivery: Successfully designed, built, and tested 577 CEMLIs from an initial set of 1,095 identified, providing tailored enhancements to meet unique business processes.
  • User Engagement: Supported 3,000 users through a structured change readiness program, with 90% reporting they felt prepared and supported entering go-live.
  • Knowledge Transfer: Delivered 90+ role-specific training sessions and created over 2,000 system instructions localized for different teams.
  • Data Migration: Successfully transferred 220,000 items, 90,000 Bills of Materials, and over 500,000 attachments (6+ TB of data) with complete regulatory fidelity.
  • Operational Readiness: Fully staffed and trained 100% of the go-live triage teams, ensuring immediate support and business continuity upon launch.

Business Results

The organization now operates on a secure, modern platform that connects product engineering directly to manufacturing and commercial operations. This seamless integration eliminates manual data entry, streamlines compliance workflows, and empowers business leaders with real-time analytics to make efficient, data-driven decisions.

Following the successful rollout in North America, the organization is positioned for scalable growth. The strategic roadmap includes extending the cloud architecture to global operations and integrating advanced analytics and innovation management systems to further optimize enterprise efficiency.

By partnering with Apps Associates, the organization not only modernized operations but also built a scalable foundation to continuously evolve as regulatory demands and business needs change.
