Introducing AskEBS
AskEBS is an AI-powered conversational platform designed to simplify and modernize how users interact with Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS). By combining the power of Generative AI with Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), AskEBS enables users to retrieve insights, perform validations and execute business operations using plain natural language conversations.
Instead of clicking through forms and dashboards, a user simply asks:
- “Show all invoices over $100K that are past due by more than 30 days”
- “Which purchase orders have not been received in the last 60 days?”
- “How many open requisitions are pending approval?”
And gets an answer back in seconds in the same conversational format.
Technical Architecture:

AskEBS ties together four components

1. APEX Frontend
The solution leverages Oracle APEX installed within the Oracle EBS database to deliver an intuitive and user-friendly interface that is embedded directly within the Oracle EBS environment through OA Framework. By integrating with Oracle EBS Single Sign-On (SSO), the application ensures that existing EBS security policies and user access controls are fully honored. In addition to SSO, the platform also supports standard EBS FND_USER authentication, providing flexibility for different deployment requirements.
The APEX UI sends the natural language (Plain English) question to the Oracle Autonomous Database (ADB) using its Select AI API (DBMS_CLOUD_AI) package.

2. Oracle Autonomous Database
When a user submits a plain English question, Autonomous Database (ADB) uses its Select AI capability to interpret the request and construct a relevant prompt, which is then forwarded to the Oracle Generative AI service for processing.
ADB is configured with multiple AI profiles, each tailored to a specific business domain. These profiles act as domain-aware guides, helping steer the model toward more accurate, contextually relevant responses aligned with the appropriate area of expertise

3. Generative AI Large Language Model
The OCI Generative AI Large Language Model (LLM) plays the critical role of translating the interpreted intent into a syntactically correct and executable SQL query, ensuring that the user’s natural-language request is accurately converted into a structured database operation

4. E-Business Suite Database
The SQL generated by the Large Language Model (LLM) is first validated for syntax before it is executed. Once the SQL is confirmed to be syntactically correct, Oracle APEX submits the query to the Oracle E-Business Suite (EBS) database for execution.
Oracle EBS R12.2.+ data always remains within the Oracle EBS database regardless of whether EBS is deployed on-premises, in a private or public cloud. The Autonomous Database and Generative AI services never have direct access to the underlying business data
Security and Governance by Design
AskEBS is designed to work seamlessly within Oracle E-Business Suite’s existing security and governance framework, enabling organizations to adopt Generative AI without disrupting established security or compliance practices.
The Generative AI layer processes only the user’s natural language request and the SQL statement it generates. It never accesses, stores or transmits the underlying Oracle EBS business data. The result is an AI-powered experience that enhances how users interact with Oracle EBS without altering the trusted controls that protect enterprise information.
AI Without Boundaries: Multi-Region, Multi-Model, Multi-EBS
The Apps Associates team validated AskEBS flexibility well beyond a single configuration:
- Successfully validated AskEBS across multiple OCI regions and AI models demonstrating the platform’s flexibility and adaptability
- Deployed and tested Meta Llama LLM (Large Language Model) in the OCI Chicago region and Grok AI LLM in the OCI Ashburn region
- Achieved consistent, accurate and reliable results across both AI platforms
- Successfully validated a Multi-EBS architecture using a single Autonomous Database (ADB) across multiple OCI regions
