Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence – An Overview
Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence (FDI), previously known as Fusion Analytics Warehouse (FAW) is a prepackaged solution from Oracle that enables you to analyze your Oracle Applications Cloud data and generate visualizations and reports and complements Oracle Transactional Business Intelligence (OTBI). While OTBI is used for operational reporting, FDI enables Historical, Descriptive, Diagnostic, Predictive, Perspective and Augmented Analytics capabilities on ERP, SCM, CX and HCM cloud SaaS offerings.
In this post, we will cover the basics of Oracle Fusion Data Intelligence so you can have a better understanding of the product and how it may fit into your Oracle tech stack.
Oracle FDI Architecture
FDI consists of the following Modules
1. ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) Analytics
2. Accounting Hub Analytics
3. SCM (Supply Chain Management) Analytics
4. HCM (Human Capital Management) Analytics
5. CX (Customer Experience) Analytics
FDI provides a pre-built Autonomous Data Warehouse (ADW) and Oracle Analytics Cloud (OAC) environment that is available to perform management-level analytics.
FDI’s pre-built data pipelines extract and load data from your Oracle Applications Cloud into an instance of Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.
Oracle FDI Prebuilt Features
Prebuilt Data Pipeline
FDI provides an Oracle managed data pipeline (from extraction to transformation to loading data). This permits the accelerated extraction of analytical data from Oracle ERP/SCM/HCM/CX Cloud into the prebuilt data model housed within Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse.
After provisioning FDI, the prebuilt data pipelines for each functional area need to be activated and scheduled for loading Oracle Cloud Applications data into the prebuilt data model. The data pipelines are divided by functional area, and the pipeline for a given functional area must be activated in order to process the data loads.
Pipelines can be scheduled to refresh data either incrementally or on demand, and access to the data is uninterrupted during the data refresh process – so you have zero downtime.
Activating data pipelines is optional, and can be configured based on your organization’s unique requirements. You can activate each functional area on its own, so you can work through the necessary pipelines at your own pace.
Prebuilt FDI Content
In addition to prebuilt data pipelines, ADW and OAC, FDI also includes over 3000 metrics and hundreds of prebuilt reports and dashboards which are accessible from Oracle’s website.
The prebuilt data model accelerates the delivery of reporting and analytics on large volumes of Cloud Fusion application data such as supporting balance sheet analysis, profitability analysis, and working capital analysis. The data model resides within the high performing Oracle Autonomous Data Warehouse optimized for fast analysis and reporting.
Prebuilt Security Framework
FDI provides an out of the-box security framework which synchronizes users and groups from Fusion Cloud Applications. These users and groups are then associated with FDI Licensed Groups that allow you to access FDI’s pre-built analytics. They also specify the user’s system permissions (whether they can consume, author or administer content for a specific module). For example, users in the “FDI Licensed ERP Authors” group can create visualizations in FDI specific to ERP Analytics Subject Areas.
Your organization can choose how to set up the authentication; you may opt for Single Sign-on with Fusion Applications or another third-party identity provider, or you may opt to allow non-fusion users in IDCS.
Benefits of using Oracle FDI
With prebuilt components for the complete analytics workflow, Fusion Analytics works across the entire process—getting data from Oracle Cloud Applications, transforming data for analytics consumption, and offering metrics for quick insights. Time-consuming design, development, and integration tasks are eliminated. Automatic updates ensure you’ll stay current with Oracle Cloud Applications releases.
